S. Carlyle Smith was born in 1955 in Utah, then relocated to Montana, where he has lived and painted for over 25 years. Primarily self-taught, but Smith did study under Freeman Butts, Carolyn Anderson and Thomas English (whom is also represented by the Dana). His work has been featured three times in US Art Magazine, including one "Editor's Choice". He has also appeared in Southwest Art Magazine. Smith is represented from coast to coast. "I started painting over 25 years ago. I wanted to record the hundreds of surreal "visions" I received. I would have a scene just pop into my mind. The scene would seemingly have nothing to do with where I was or what was going on in my life. Since then I have been fascinated with the 1920-1940's. I plan on revisiting that time with my paintings." |
